Bangkok has loads of hospitals. A quick search on the internet gave me the internet address of a travel clinic specialising in tropical diseases near the BST monument station. I decided to try it out. I started a series of shots before I left Norway but will have to finish it as I travel through Asia. I figured it would be a good way to learn about the nomad way of handling medical issues and figuring out the medical systems throughout the region.
To book an appointment you let them know when you wish to have the appointment and fill out the form here http://www.thaitravelclinic.com/contact/make-an-appointment . Voila, you have an appointment. I booked in the evening for an appointment after some sightseeing in the area the next day – no problem.
The Thai Travel Clinic is situated on the third floor of this government run hospital for tropical diseases. You will need your vaccination card and passport – fill out a form and you are in to see the doctor. As always in Thailand you are treated with respect and met with a thousand smiles. After discussing which vaccinations you need, the doctor will write a note for you to give to the nurse in the reception – the nurse will then send you downstairs to the first floor where you entered the hospital to pay for your required dose of medication. Bring the receipt back to the third floor travel clinic and show it to the nurse. She will give you the vaccinations you payed for.
You have to wait 20 – 30 minutes after the shots before you can go, and they come over checking if you are feeling fine before you go. I highly recommend this place. Clean, professional and warm hearted. Of course, the doctor wanted me to have a series of rabies shots because I am going to Indonesia. That requires me to have a refill after seven days and then again after two months, so I will try at least two more hospitals to finish what I started in Thailand. It took less than one hour from I entered the hospital until I was back on the streets. They are also experts in tropical diseases so if you have any questions, worries or feel sick, this is the place to go when you are travelling in or around Bangkok.
